the beach at Arbroath, Scotland

up the rocky coast

i realize that in the last two and half to three years, i have been magnificiently spoiled when it comes to buying music. you have to realize that, until last Sunday, i hadn't paid full price for a new cd for ages, between my employee discount and all the free promos i got. so when i plunked down two new cds (Elvis Costello - This Year's Model and Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose) and the total came to $25 (that was after my $10 gift card), it was a shock. dammit.

on Wednesday i got smart and went to a couple used cd stores on South Street and found some more cds (Liz Phair - whitechocolatespaceegg, Edie Brickell - Volcano and Wyclef Jean - The Preacher's Son), priced at what i think cds should be - $10.99, $11.99 and $12.99. i enjoy buying used cds, not only because they're cheap but because it's my little way of saying a hearty "fuck you" to the RIAA. this i enjoy.

the reason for this new music? a nice, long drive to Maine tomorrow. 12 hours straight. i have never driven that much in one day (i think my max is around 6 hours), so it should be interesting, to say the least. i've picked the scenic route, in some cases. trying to avoid 95 at all costs. i wish i could stop more, but i have to be on Deer Isle, Maine at 6 pm tomorrow. i'm saving the sight-seeing for the ride home.

so dears, i don't anticipate updating for the next two weeks. i hope i can stay far away from computers and my cell phone during that time. i will see you all soon, with many stories to tell.
